Never pull on a string hanging from your cat's mouth or rear end. Pulling it can bunch up and tear the intestines, which is life-threatening.

Do this now

1. Step 1Keep any leftover pieces of the item (or an identical one) and work out exactly what your cat swallowed and how long or large it was.
2. Step 2If string is hanging from your cat's mouth or rear end, do not pull it. Either trim only the loose excess with scissors or leave it as is, and place your cat in a cat carrier.
3. Step 3Call your vet or an emergency vet right away, tell them when and what your cat swallowed, and head in (inducing vomiting generally works only within 2–3 hours of swallowing).
