🍼Kitten won't feed

Emergency: Kittens under 2 months old can quickly develop fatal low blood sugar and hypothermia. If a kitten has not fed for over 12 hours, feels cold, or is limp, call a vet right away.

Do this now

1. Step 1Touch the kitten's paw pads and ears first. If they feel cold, warm the kitten gently with a towel-wrapped heating pad or warm water bottle before feeding.
2. Step 2Warm kitten milk replacer in a water bath to 38–40°C (100.4–104°F). Keep the kitten on their belly (natural crawling posture) and hold the bottle at a 45-degree angle.
3. Step 3If the kitten refuses the bottle, place single drops into the side of their mouth using a needleless syringe or dropper, or offer formula on a shallow dish and guide them with your fingertip.

Don't do this

• ✕Giving cow's milk meant for humans (kittens cannot digest lactose and will develop severe diarrhea; always use kitten milk replacer).
• ✕Holding the kitten on their back like a human baby to feed (milk can enter the lungs and cause aspiration pneumonia).
