🏃My cat escaped

Stop running after your cat or calling their name loudly right now. Chasing a panicked cat can drive them into traffic.

Do this now

1. Step 1Take a deep breath, close the escape route (window or door), and secure any other pets in a separate room.
2. Step 2Use a flashlight to quietly check around your property—under cars, inside wheel wells or under hoods, behind outdoor AC units, and under sheds—looking for the reflection of your cat's eyes.
3. Step 3Put used cat litter (which carries your cat's scent) in an open plastic bag and place it by the front door or a corner of the yard.
4. Step 4Set out strong-smelling wet food and water nearby, and leave the escape window open a few centimeters (1–2 in) with a security lock engaged so your cat can slip back inside.
